Wednesday July 27 - Liana Jackson

I am so happy sitting here in Ianthe's house with the One Year Lease Company members. I am surrounded by talented, beautiful, inspiring people who make my heart full of joy. Right now we are cooking a delicious dinner and jamming to oldies mixed of rock n roll and Motown. One of my favorite eras besides the 80's.

I can't express enough how much I learned so much in just one week. Its a wonderful experience to grow with people you love and enjoy being around.

Today I woke up ready! Didn't have to know exactly the schedule of the day I just knew I was in a great place and knew that whatever was planned for the day I would enjoy and take with me - long term lessons I will use for the rest of my life.

I am always ready to work because this is a safe, comfortable environment where no one is here to judge or step on your choices. We are all here to support and trust one another as we go forward. We are here to make friends and continue to build our friendship to make our purpose here stronger. These are the two important lessons we as a group learned today: trust and friendship. All of us stood in a line while each individual had to run towards us. We were tightly conjoined in a line...but their eyes were closed. Some barged, some staggered cautiously forward. It was hilarious and cute. You see the best in people. And there are many laughs. Laughter is my favorite sound.

EXPLORE! And I mean exploring. The main challenge thus far is to invent body language that is big and sharp. I've been a fan of the physical actor and now I am getting the chance to explore that process. For instance while we work shopped "A Mouthful Of Birds" in my group we had to take on dangerous animals. I took on a bull. I had to exaggerate the traits of the bull: the arched back, the cuffing of the right arm, the hoofing nose right before the bull charges at its victim. My experience consisted of me using my body in ways I hadn't before and I was very pleased of going in the unknown.

I had a great reading of "A Midsummer Nights Dream" for the first time today. We all went in a circle and assigned characters.Gender didn't matter. And as we kept on reading we changed the characters. Each of us got a chance to read one - five different characters. Not only does this help to adapt to different characters in a short time but you also get to utilize different skills to adapt to the different characters. I find it fascinating and uplifting. We all at one point or another flexed our personality in the text and made the text come to life. I am surrounded by talent and beautiful beings.

From this point on we will work on the cut version of Midsummer. Basically the whole play is going to be more physical based rather than text based because most of the scenes you can create without words. We're also in Greece and the less Shakespeare the more the audience will be able to understand.

There are great teachers and great coaches during this process. There will be a great amount of attention and detail on pronunciation, and how to properly deliver Shakespeare. In the future we will be working one on one with the teacher, which I look forward to so we can concentrate on specifics that lie in just one character.

I feel as though I am in a fun house. I LOVE IT!
